Welcome to THE ART GALLERY for the 20th International Focusing Conference, which is officially opening its doors with contributions from Lorraine Bouchard (Montreal), Robin Kappy (New York) and Nina Joy Lawrence (Corvallis, Oregon).
Thank you for sharing yourselves fearlessly and beautifully.
Here's a little background on the creation of this Art Gallery. When we were busy, more than one year ago, working on the flyer and especially the logo to represent our "Beyond Duality" theme, Marine de Freminville & I (Patricia Manessy) worked closely with a good friend of mine, Hungarian-born Canadian artist, Geza Hermann (please visit his web site www.gezart.com). We sat with him and explained that we wanted something to represent the 'duality' and we started with things that looked like yin/yang symbols and slowly, slowly it became a 'duality' reflected in a sort of infinity symbol. From there, we wanted something to emerge from the center of this duality, and finally this colorful energy or flame or extraordinary light came, enhanced by the graphic design artistry of Lambert Ouellet (another good friend). When we sit with our duality, something much more than all of that, something beyond that comes. And it comes with power and with beauty and of course, from within. As we were working with Geza, I asked another wonderful friend of mine, Colette Briere, a Focuser and an artist, if she might sit with our theme and come up with any ideas. Here's what happened: she came up with these beautiful drawings which I am unable to adequately describe in words. All I remember is that Chiara Borrello and I nearly fell off our chairs as we opened her email and saw idea after idea. The 'problem' (but really not a problem at all!) is that we needed something more 'logo-ish'. So we went with Geza's wonderful design. And then I thought, why don't we create a place for other 'art' emerging from the 20th International Conference theme, and 'Art Gallery' came to be, where we hope to have at least one of Colette Briere's drawings. Many of you are working with Focusing & Art, Focusing & Creativity in all its forms, so here is the invitation: We are inviting all of you to sit with our theme "Beyond Duality", to be with any dualities that may be there for you right now, to accompany with Presence the 'on the one hand' and the 'on the other hand', and to see what comes...allowing the 'beyond' to emerge (I remember one of Gene's questions: "And is there a third place?"). And finally, allow this to manifest into a 'work of art' (even if you don't consider yourself or believe you are an artist). In truth, it need not be limited to our theme “Beyond Duality”, but may emerge from any of your Focusing inner landscapes.
We welcome all art forms; it doesn't have to be a painting or a drawing (although it may); it can be a poem or a song, or a collage, or a photograph or anything that you can photograph, scan and send to us.
